are pleased to present the 8th annual Martin Gardner Celebration of
Mind from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in the Straz Atrium.
Every fall, people around the world gather to honor the legacy of
magician, mathematician, skeptic, puzzler, Lewis Carroll scholar, and
science writer, Martin Gardner. This year’s Celebration of Mind will
celebrate the work of artist M.C. Escher, who Gardner first introduced
to the United States in his Scientific American column.
The event will begin with a series of talks related to the contributions of M.C. Escher by professors Sara Jensen, Ryan Miller, and Tony Barnhart. The second half of the event will include hands-on demonstrations of magic, illusion, and Escher-inspired weirdness.
