Friday News Jan 10: Weekly Socials back to Saturdays

  • Weekend Socials on Saturday

Please note that G4G Weekend Socials are back to being held on Saturday at 1 pm Atlanta time.

  • G4G Weekly Socials

Our weekly Socials are held on Saturday at 1 pm Atlanta time (check the time for you here).

We are using the Zoom Meeting platform here (not Zoom Webinar as we do for our monthly CoM presentations on the 21st). So for these Saturday socials we will all be able to see each other.

    Upcoming Sessions:

Sat 11 Jan – “What would Martin Gardner Do?”
Sat 18 Jan – “Rediscovering Martin Gardner’s Mathematical Games column from Scientific American”
    Sat 25 Jan – TBA

We welcome theme suggestions for the G4G Weekend Socials. Would you like to lead such a social, perhaps with a fresh look at a favorite Martin Gardner column (or book)? A  piece on critical thinking? A miscellaneous theme? Please contact us.

All information can be found here.

  • Saturday Social, Jan 11, “What Would Martin Gardner Do?”

For the second weekend social of the month, NOW ON SATURDAYS, we will try to address the question “What Would Martin Gardner Do?” in the following sense:

Martin would be appalled at the lack of basic thinking skills shown by so many people in this age of increasing misformation and uncritical acceptance of propaganda.

Maybe people could take turns surveying some of MGs exemplary writings on rationality over a 60 year period!

Let’s continue discussing this proposal this Saturday at 1pm ET (Atlanta time)

  • G4G15 Videos

As for past G4Gn videos of the flash talks presented at the Gathering will be shared publicly on the web. We are uploading new videos weekly to our YouTube channel. You can find the latest videos here.

  • G4G Tributes

It is with sadness that G4G notes the passing of long time G4G community member Adam Atkinson on Dec 8, 2024.

We continue to update and maintain multiple tribute pages. In this we hope to honour and remember the many who have made the G4G community the remarkable group it is. As well as to inspire and connect those who build on the shoulders of these giants. We welcome and encourage any contribution to these tributes. To share your memories or anecdotes, please email us, support@g4gfoundation.org
