Puzzle Party Fundraiser

There will be mechanical and paper puzzles for puzzle enthusiasts, novices, and those in between, as well as puzzle inventors.

Donations received from this fundraising event will go toward supporting the G4G organization as we plan to move our next Gathering (G4G16) to San Francisco in 2026.

  • WHERE: Bob Hearn’s house in Portola Valley (south of San Francisco) –
The address will be provided to attendees.
  • WHEN: Sunday, October 20 at 4:00 pm
  • WHAT:
    • We will be honoring Donald Knuth, who is a long-time puzzle enthusiast. Puzzles often are included in his books, such as his multi-volume work The Art of Computer Programming and Selected Papers on Fun and GamesThis is your opportunity to spend time with Donald Knuth and some puzzles that he enjoys.
    • Jim Gardner, Martin Gardner’s son, will share some memories of Martin’s interest in puzzles.
    • On display will be some of the American Institute of Mathematics private John H. Conway collection, which includes notebooks and puzzles. Be one of the first to view the collection.
    • We will also have a couple of “recreational mathemusician” YouTuber Vi Hart’s notebooks and items that have appeared in her videos, which have been viewed by millions.
