G4G Weekly Socials
Our weekly Socials are held on Saturday at 1 pm Atlanta time (check the time for you here).
We are using the Zoom Meeting platform here (not Zoom Webinar as we do for our monthly CoM presentations on the 21st). So for these Saturday socials we will all be able to see each other.
Upcoming Sessions:Sat 13 Dec – David Plaxco with “Ru-Doku – A 9-layer Rubik’s Cube Sudoku”
I was recently messaged by a potential customer about the possibility of making a 9-layer Rubik’s cube that had numbers on each pixel and could be solved to a Latin square on each side. She sent a grainy image she’d come across on the Internet in which it seems to show someone has already built such a puzzle. I have since found the post I believe the image came from. ( https://www.reddit.com/r/Cubers/s/iL9TVQ7cMF ) The sale fell through, but the problem continues to intrigue me. I will talk about the various challenges of designing such a puzzle, including the necessary components of Sudoku puzzles, the mechanical constraints of 9x9x9 Rubik’s cubes, and some ideas I have about how to build such a puzzle. This is a very new project, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Sat 20 Dec – “Rediscovering Martin Gardner’s Mathematical Games column from Scientific American”
Sat 27 Dec – TBDWe welcome theme suggestions for the G4G Weekend Socials. Would you like to lead such a social, perhaps with a fresh look at a favorite Martin Gardner column (or book)? A piece on critical thinking? A miscellaneous theme? Please contact us.
All information can be found here.
Virtual Celebration of Mind
We continue our series of online seminars, Virtual Celebration of Mind, that started in 2020. The sessions are at 12 noon Atlanta time (check your time here) held on zoom webinar, here.
This month, Sunday, December 21, at 12 noon ET, Atlanta Local Time, we return for another Virtual Celebration of mind. We’ll also meet in another Zoom Room, where everyone will be able to see each other, right after this presentation.
G4G15 Videos
As for past G4Gn videos of the flash talks presented at the Gathering will be shared publicly on the web. We are uploading new videos weekly to our YouTube channel. You can find the latest videos here.
G4G Tributes
We continue to update and maintain multiple tribute pages. In this we hope to honour and remember the many who have made the G4G community the remarkable group it is. As well as to inspire and connect those who build on the shoulders of these giants. We welcome and encourage any contribution to these tributes. To share your memories or anecdotes, please email us, support@g4gfoundation.org
