Short Bio: Born in Riga, Latvia. Taught mathematics for 40 years. Crocheted first hyperbolic plane for using it in geometry class in 1997. Since then has crocheted many more turning geometric model to an art piece. Has given many public lectures and invited talks, and participated in art shows in USA, Belgium, Latvia, Italy, UK, Germany. Has written several books in mathematics. Her book “Crocheting Adventures with the Hyperbolic Planes”(AKPeters/CRC Press, 2009) won 2010 Diagram Prize for the oddest book title, in 2012 MAA Euler Book Prize for the best book about mathematics for general audiences.
