Friday News June 2: Celebrating the Spectre tiling, G4G Weekend Socials

  • Celebrating the Spectre tiling

This weekend on Sunday at 12 noon Atlanta time (check the time for you here). We will host a session Weekend Social Zoom Room, here, to celebrate this week’s announcement by Craig S. Kaplan that he and teammates David Smith, Joseph Samuel Myers, and Chaim Goodman-Strauss have improved on their earlier discovery  of the Ein Stein tiling: the new Spectre tiling uses a single tile (without mirror images) to tile the infinite 2D plane aperiodically (and only aperiodically).

The session will be hosted by Bob Hearn and will be recorded; we plan to later post edited highlights on the G4G YouTube channel.  Participants will need the meeting ID and passcode if they join directly from Zoom, without using the link. People will be able to see each other if they have webcams. Share screen will also be available.

Please Note that this session replaces the usual Paper Puzzle Session.
