Our weekly Socials are held on Sunday at 12 noon Atlanta time (check the time for you here).
We are using the Zoom Meeting platform here (not Zoom Webinar as we do for our monthly CoM presentations on the 21st). So for these Sundays socials we will all be able to see each other.

Weekly Socials | REDISCOVERING MARTIN GARDNER’S MATHEMATICAL GAMES COLUMN FROM SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN
The third Sunday is our “Rediscovering Martin Gardner’s Mathematical Games column from Scientific American” slot, and this weekend Scott Kim will lead. He writes:In his Aug 1998 article “A Quarter-Century of Recreational Mathematics” in Scientific American, Martin Gardner wrote “For 40 years I have done my best to convince educators that recreational math should be incorporated into the standard curriculum. It should be regularly introduced as a way to interest young students in the wonders of mathematics. So far, though, movement in this direction has been glacial.”In this talk I’ll break down the barriers to the widespread adoption of recreational mathematics in education, as a step toward breaking them down.
December Virtual Celebration of Mind (CoM)
This Thursday December 21, at 12 noon ET (16:00 UTC) Atlanta Local Time, we return for another Virtual Celebration of mind. The title of this month’s presentation is “Counting Sets with Surreals” by Peter Lynch. This presentation will happen on Zoom Webinar. We’ll also meet in another Zoom Room, where everyone will be able to see each other, right after this presentation.
