G4G Weekly Socials
Our weekly Socials are held on Saturday at 1 pm Atlanta time (check the time for you here).
We are using the Zoom Meeting platform here (not Zoom Webinar as we do for our monthly CoM presentations on the 21st). So for these Saturday socials we will all be able to see each other.
Upcoming Sessions:Sat 06 Sep – Scott Kim with “What I learned by designing fraction games”
Eight years ago I spent a year researching and testing games to teach the basic concepts of fractions to fourth graders. Why do so many kids struggle with this concept, and what can we do about it? Here are the surprisingly deep things I learned about mathematics, math notation, and the failings of conventional math education. And in keeping with our puzzle theme for first Saturdays, I'll open and close with some fraction puzzles.
Sat 13 Sep – “What would Martin Gardner Do?”
Sat 20 Sep – “Rediscovering Martin Gardner’s Mathematical Games column from Scientific American”
Sat 27 Sep – TBDWe welcome theme suggestions for the G4G Weekend Socials. Would you like to lead such a social, perhaps with a fresh look at a favorite Martin Gardner column (or book)? A piece on critical thinking? A miscellaneous theme? Please contact us.All information can be found here.
Virtual Celebration of Mind
We continue our series of online seminars, Virtual Celebration of Mind, that started in 2020. The sessions are at 12 noon Atlanta time (check your time here) held on zoom webinar, here
G4G15 Videos
As for past G4Gn videos of the flash talks presented at the Gathering will be shared publicly on the web. We are uploading new videos weekly to our YouTube channel. You can find the latest videos here.
G4G Tributes
We continue to update and maintain multiple tribute pages. In this we hope to honour and remember the many who have made the G4G community the remarkable group it is. As well as to inspire and connect those who build on the shoulders of these giants. We welcome and encourage any contribution to these tributes. To share your memories or anecdotes, please email us, support@g4gfoundation.org
