Friday News June 19: Weekly Socials, June CoM, New YT Videos

  • G4G Weekly Socials

Our weekly Socials are held on Sunday at 1 pm Atlanta time (check the time for you here).

We are using the Zoom Meeting platform here (not Zoom Webinar as we do for our monthly CoM presentations on the 21st). So for these Saturday socials we will all be able to see each other.

    Upcoming Sessions:

Sun 21 Jun – Celebration of Mind (see below)
Sun 28 Jun – Jørn Hafver and Frederik Motland with “Jærmuseet Science Circus”

Expect an engaging session with Norwegian math outreach educators Jørn Hafver and Frederik Motland from the Jærmuseet Science Circus. Known both for their mobile interactive circus and their impressive "bricks 'n' mortar" regional museum, Jørn and Frederik will share a behind-the-scenes look at how they make STEM accessible and fun. They will introduce their latest, deeper "mathy" projects, share insights from the field, and perhaps even treat us to a math-infused magic trick!

We welcome theme suggestions for the G4G Weekend Socials. Would you like to lead such a social, perhaps with a fresh look at a favorite Martin Gardner column (or book)? A  piece on critical thinking? A miscellaneous theme? Please contact us.

All information can be found here.

  • Virtual Celebration of Mind

We continue our series of online seminars, Virtual Celebration of Mind, that started in 2020. The sessions are at 12 noon Atlanta time (check your time here) held on zoom webinar, here.

This Sunday June 21, at 12 noon ET, Atlanta Local Time, we return for for another Virtual Celebration of mind. The title of this month’s presentation is “The Jaunty Squares Theorem by Colin Wright. This presentation will happen on Zoom Webinar. We’ll also meet in another Zoom Room, where everyone will be able to see each other, right after this presentation.

  • G4G Tributes

We continue to update and maintain multiple tribute pages. In this we hope to honour and remember the many who have made the G4G community the remarkable group it is. As well as to inspire and connect those who build on the shoulders of these giants. We welcome and encourage any contribution to these tributes. To share your memories or anecdotes, please email us, support@g4gfoundation.org
