Friday News Feb 16: Weekly Socials, February CoM, G4G Tributes

  • G4G Weekly Socials

Our weekly Socials are held on Sunday at 1 pm Atlanta time (check the time for you here).

We are using the Zoom Meeting platform here (not Zoom Webinar as we do for our monthly CoM presentations on the 21st). So for these Sundays socials we will all be able to see each other.

    Upcoming Sessions:

Sun 18 Feb – Rediscovering Martin Gardner’s Mathematical Games Column From Scientific American
Kate Jones will speak about a topic Martin Gardner often wrote about in his Scientific American column, pentominoes!

We welcome theme suggestions for the G4G Weekend Socials. Would YOU like to lead such a social, perhaps with a fresh look at a favorite Martin Gardner column (or book)? All information can be found here.
  • February Virtual Celebration of Mind (CoM)

With hundreds of our community not attending the Gathering 4 Gardner 15 we decided to keep the Virtual Celebration of Mind even though we will be having our hands busy at the Gathering.

On Wednesday February 21, at 12 noon ET (16:00 UTC) Atlanta Local Time, we return for another Virtual Celebration of mind.

The title of this month’s presentation is “Mythematics – Using complex networks to analyse myths, epics & legends by Pádraig MacCarron. This presentation will happen on Zoom Webinar. We’ll also meet in another Zoom Room, where everyone will be able to see each other, right after this presentation.
  • Gathering 4 Gardner 15 Next Week

Next week is the 15th Gathering 4 Gardner. We are looking forward to 5 days with over 300 people. There is still room if you decide last minute to join us.

Everything you need to know about the gathering this year can be found on our G4G15 Info-page, here.
  • G4G Tributes

We continue to update and maintain multiple tribute pages. In this we hope to honour and remember the many who have made the G4G community the remarkable group it is. As well as to inspire and connect those who build on the shoulders of these giants. We welcome and encourage any contribution to these tributes. To share your memories or anecdotes, please email us, support@g4gfoundation.org
